| Recording a Guitar Amp Shootout Fellow Slutz, I want to record an amp shootout which compares guitar amplifier / cabinet combos to post on this forum. To get a fair comparision between these amps, I am looking for advise on technique. I have a chandler TG-2 coming in next week and have a presonus MP-20, an SM57, a senheiser e609 silver, and a soundelux ifet7 condensor mic. My recording setup I think is going to be: SM-57 pointed exaclty halfway between the center cone and the edge of the woofer of the speaker. going into a Chandler TG-2, Apogee PSX 100 SE, an RME Hammerfall, into Cubase SX 2.0. Would a condensor in the room be more fare (due to mic placement may not always be perfect with close dynamic)? The amps that will be tested with different settings: Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifer Marshall TSL 100 Bogner XTC Cabs (speaker info is coming): Mesa Recto Cab Marshall 1960A & 1960B Mesa Theile Cab Marshall TSL 602 cab Wish I had more amps to test, but it's somthing to share! Thanks, Jon |

Jon and I are going to get a bunch of amps together and do some recordings with different amp/cab combos. For example, a TSL with a Recto cab, a Recto with a 1960a etc... I wpuld also like to do some comparisons of mics and mic pres. I'm not 100% sure how Jon wants to organize the comparison... I expect him to show up at my house with a shitload of gear, a white lab coat, some goggles, and a clipboard. | |
