snare doesnt even sound like a snare. Sounds like someone flicking a piece of paper.

vocals dont seem to fit well with mix, they could come down for starters. Maybe a bit to dynamic as well.

I only listened once though. I'll check it out again.

I already heard this in one of your chatroom broadcasts I think.

I really like the tune personally and nothing you did distracts me in any way from how cool the song is.

Which basically means to me you did your job well.

I don`t listen to music to hear the mix I listen to hear the song and I thought you helped make the band and singer sound really good so mission accomplished.

Once again I`ll buy the CD when it comes out. The rest of the tunes are great also.

my challenge with this mix has always been fitting 300lbs of stuff into a 50 lb sack in the choruses. I don't think this is the final version I posted so that aspect got a bit better. As to the snare sound: do you mean the cross stick in the verses or the open snr iin the choruses? It comes from more of a jazz perspective... not everone's cup of tea. and it's ALL about the singer.

thanks for the kind words Kevin

Nicely done...I think the cross stick is the right way to go with this song, it may be "thin", but I think that's what I would want. I like the organ, it adds a lot to the song and the tone is great. The vocals are a touch high in my opinion, but you justified that by saying that your intent is to showcase the singer, in which case the level is appropriate.

Not Bad. I would pull the guitar in the chorus back and go for a smoother less overdriven sound.

The vocals are nice but I would bus them to a wettish reverb and mix them 25/75 wet/dry to give it a bit of space. Maybe a very short verb for drums mixed real low for some presence.

Id also rework the phrasing "well these are tryin times..." sounds a bit awkward.

The organ sounds good. To make it more modern, layer it or add some subtle space creating synth lines and textures.
Id polish up the drums more as far as comping and EQing to make them snap and punch more.

Overall the mix seems real open. Add some 2 bus compression to make everything gel more and sound a bit bigger.

I agree that the guitar is too loud in the chorus. It's distracting from the vocal. I couldn't really hear what she just sang or pay attention because the guitar is fighting with her for attention. And that overdriven sound doesn't help a bit. It's too thick and meaty to compliment her voice's timbre.

Recording some background vocals/harmonies might bring that chorus out more.

Other than that a fine job. I liked it a lot up until the chorus. But that guitar's gotta chill right there.

Since your vocalist seems kinda "neo-soul" maybe the guitarist could step on the wah pedal when the chorus comes, instead of the tube screamer. THAT would be dope.

yeah, I agree with Eric. You've got to pull back on the guitar.

She's got a great voice.
