The new Stones...!?

Hi Guys,

Great feature Jules!

This is a band, who at this point shall remain nameless, who I've been developing.

I produced/engineered/mixed this track at the end of last year and I'm just about to re-start the project with a load of new tracks that they have written.

There was a hell of a lot of pre/production went into this and I think it would be too cruel on them to post the demo they originally gave me of the track.

I'm particularly interested in US opinions on this track because this is where the band are looking to go to... and me too at some point hopefully.

Feel free to fire in comments/suggestions/questions,etc..

For the new Stones perhaps look at rawer contamporary bands like Jet, The Kings of Leon, Strokes.

This sounds way more polished than the current crop of raw guitar bands and gives a 80's 'big stadium act' vibe ala U2 / Simple Minds... Thing is - is that what US A&R are looking for?

Sounds great though....

....ahhh.
You're correct Jules, the 'Stones' part was more in reference to the tracks title 'Heart of Stone', I should have made that clearer.

And you're correct in your take on it. My whole concept of the production, in fact the band, was 80's rock retro with a modern element. I like to imagine them as the new INXS...
(...and matching sales would be nice too...).
So, the 80's thing was intended and I'm glad I was able to translate this.

The big labels here are in such a complete shake-up that many are literally out looking for their next job! Most labels have dumped all of their new acts over the past few months so A&R's first priority will be cherry-picking from a bunch of new albums that have already been paid for by other labels.

I'd frankly suggest starting in on "plan B!"

Me likee.

Very slick, can hear you've spent time on it both in tracking and mixing. Nice tight playing, much editing?

They sound familiar, are they out and about in the UK yet?

Cheers,
Rich

Thanks Rich. There wasn't much editing at all to be honest, a bit of comping between takes, but no edits. I'd much rather make them keep playing it till I'm happy than 'make' a performance. I seem to remember the guitarist needing 10 minute breaks after every other take, such was the nature of his part...

I'll PM you on who they are...
