Strange Experimental Post-Rock Demo

www.thenervous.com/GFRoughFinal1.mp3

All in the box, guitars+bass direct, piano and drums from samples (although played on a keyboard), [cop-out] vocals done with the built in mic in my G4

I think it's decent, considering the above.

What do you think?

If it's not the beer kicking in, or the codeine... I must be a sucker for arty music.

This is scary stuff. In a good way. Who wrote this, and why? Is it a soundtrack? For some sci-fi thing?

What did you do to push the drums so far back? What reverb? Settings?

Totally ITB? I want to know all about it. DAW, plugs etc.

Again: Why and how? This thing is out on a mission, taking musical form. A coded message to something out there?

Glad to share :)

I wrote this with a heavy Mogwai influence - it wasn't supposed to be so weird. Then, I realized I can't sing. Ideally, I want to have a sultry female jazz voice in the chorus. But I don't know anyone right now. So I distorted my spoken voice in the chorus using Logic's Preset AM Radio sound, and used Logic's preset "Male to Female" in the verse.

But yeah, it's all done in Logic Pro.

Guitars run through Guitar Amp Pro, bass through the bass amp plug in.

Drums are Battery 2, Multi-Mic Acoustic Kit, but there are two layers. One with a normal, subtle room verb, one with Space Designer's "Pumping Drum Room" preset. I mixed and matched until I got the sound I thought fit.

Piano is Akoustik Piano.

There's a little Reaktor in there too

Lanervoza,

creative work. You show what a DAW can do when used as a music making machine.

The female vs. male vox thing is great. Nice contrast. Also the "traditional" drum and piano sounds make a good contrast the the weirder sounds. Enhancing each other.

So this is your style? Any special project going on?

You know this tune is obviously artsy and I totally dug it! Sonically it's not the norm either but that definitely goes with the tune - nice and interesting.

I am about up to here with formula music and this was a nice break
.

Good job

Reminded me of The Residents a bit. (The severely distorted vocal, something about the lyrics and the delivery, the slightly creepy atmosphere, and a distinct sense of "tongue-in-cheek.)
Now, The Residents, seeems to be a band name I don't think I have seen anyone mention on GS... and I read a LOT of posts here...
