| Gear interested | Live Jazz Quartet Here is a piece from a recent saxophone recital that I recorded at my University. The instrumentation is saxophone, piano, bass, and drums. Any criticism or suggestions are welcome. http://ilocker.bsu.edu/users/krnuern...Track%2006.aif if the link prompts a password just hit cancel and it should still let you download it. -Kyle |

| When you cancel the page states that... You are not authorized to view this page. If applicable, why not upload it to the GS server?

| Overall good image and clarity. Two things however: You should try to find a micing technique that keeps the sax from jumping around the stereo field. Hearing the saxophonist move around can be distracting to the listener. Also the bass sounds a little thin and a bit soft. I would experiment with mic placement to get more body from the bass, and if it still needs more help then try some eq. You could eq the center channel separately by using M/S decoding, thus avoiding making unwanted changes to the piano or drums.

| IMO, the sax is much too loud. Remember it's jazz... I like jazz recordings where the soloists seem to blend with the rest of the band. It helps feeling this interaction thing better. And yeah, mizzle's right when he says : "Two things however: You should try to find a micing technique that keeps the sax from jumping around the stereo field." Though it's not that bad. The sound is a too bright for my tastes but iit can the player's fault. The piano sounds alright. The left comping hand might be a bit too loud. What did you use to record the bass? Have you tried to pan the piano to the right and the drums to the left? FYI, the song is Cherokee!! Victor. |

| I agree that the sax is a bit loud. It's very noticeable to me around 3:30 when sax stops and the piano part there sounds very, very light in comparison. |
