| You guys have any creative ideas soundwise to do with this song. I'm talking bout overdrive on begindrumpart, vocal effects, phasing, flangers, or anything to make this over the top. It can be really experimental. The guys listen a lot to NIN, mars volta, barkmarket, soulwax.. Share please and explain how to do it. Thanx!

| Its not about the mix, it's just a premix. I've put a limiter on the mix just for the client so it would be louder. But I get all the processing of when its mixed and I have to send it to mastering. This thread is about ideas, focus on creativity! :) Thnks.

| These kind of stonerrock is usually very simple. What kind of things are in those big stonerbands like QOTSA. Listen to old grunge bands like Butthole surfers and Sonic youth you might find something valuable.. That mix sounded good, and I didnīt hear any dist on that, maybe my mackie hr824īs are crap! www.redfivestudio.net |

I didn't hear any distortion either on my Tannoys, just think it's the nature of the track and the genre of music. I think all the elements are there, it's now a question of the mixing to create space to help with the dynamics of the track..Maybe that will help with the "flatness" pointed out by one poster here. Not sure- but that "flatness" could be "corrected" by EQ ing of instruments that may be in the same frequency range which might help "separating" them sonically. Also, the fact that you're asking for "creative" input, is telling me that you already know the track needs musical or harmonic or rhythmic interest. I have heard tracks with very few instruments where the "interest" comes from an "interesting "arrangement . Perhaps "re-arrangement" might help But,If that's too much to ask of yourself and the band ,then the dreaded possibility of editing the tracks (if you recorded them on a DAW), cutting and pasting etc. might do the trick. But if you feel that you can only remix, there's not alot of instruments on the track, spend more time on each element---placing it in the panoramic image where it can "breathe", add any FX if necessary, dynamics if necessary, listen to each instrument and how it sits in relation with the other elements (instruments and vox). None of this is "earth shattering' info, just logic and "common sense" I also think you could do two important things to help yourself. ............. One-Listen to what the band is listening to for "reference", and "study" what makes those tracks sound the way they do. .....and........ Secondly--drop that "I have no talent, only good intentions." handle! I wouldn't want to work with somebody who felt that way about themselves, joking or not!! .......Would you?.......I didn't think so!!.........peace?
