Songs pre mastering via Massive

Hi everyone, Im having trouble with a few songs at the mix stage. I am going to send these to Massive when they are finished.

The first is "Never Been". The vocal drives the song, and there are a bunch of drum breaks. The song is a slow burner, building to the end with background vocs. There is no limiter/compression on the output.

How does it sound? specifically, Im having trouble get the guitars and vocs to sit together, and the guitar sounds (on the second and third solos) a bit harsh to me at higher volumes.

Are the guitars balanced within the song? How about the vocals? Do the background parts sound good?

Any other comments/suggestions that you have would be most appreciated. The mp3 is a 192 kbs encoding.

hi,
here's my two cents. first off, experiment with panning. open up space for the vocals which will be in the center. pan the piano and guitars left and right. also, the vocals could use some compression and eq. I would roll off some low end around 200hz down 3-6db? give your vocals some air too. if the guitars sound to aggressive just bring them down..you might want to try a different distortion. The drum are totally buried..you might want to bring them out. Honestly, those samples arent too hot and there are some moments that need quantizing. I really like the chorus of this song, though!

you definitely need to spend a little more time on the mix. Bring the drums way out, use some more panning and compression to make them drive the song. The vocals sound nearly uncompressed, they get really blaring during the chorus. Also, I think the chorus sounds like it could really use something else to set it apart from the rest of the song. A real driving dirty guitar sound could help it stand out.

You've got pretty nice tones for everything, the mix is just way out of balance. Maybe thing about getting a professional to mix and master it, it would probably end up sounding pretty great.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your comments. It looks like I need to start over on this one. It also sounds like getting the compression right on the vocal is where to focus some additional work. Ill get to work and post the results soon.
