Need advice on this hard rock sample

Hey guys just wondering what you think of this mix, mainly the guitars. are they too middy?? i know there is a problem with them but can't really figure out what it is haha. maybe you can help. I'm going for a thrice kind of sound.

I like the drum sound.
The guitars sound overly distorted.
Not good.
That clip cuts out in two spots.
I would re-do the guitars and compresss the shit out of them.
The levels must have been in the high reds on that recording.
Simply, it's too distorted and the guitar sound is not a good tone.

Ditto on the guitar sound. It sounds almost all upper mids and highs. The "scooped" guitar sound might be fasionable with metal players but you need those mid frequencies to give the guitar it's presence and grunt. I can't agree with the compression suggestion though, overdriven guitar is already massively compressed. It doesn't really need any more.

you are very close with this track, the drums are awesome, I think you can use what you have but shelf it up and also a couple more tracks, double up the heavy chording.

THINK LAYERS

also here is an actaul thrice guitar track naked. It's much less gainy by itself, but add several layers and it gets thick without the fizz

Guitars

sweet, what song are those guitars from?. Right now i have 2 guitars panned 100% L and R and one 30% L. Should i double up the L and R guitars? with a different sound or similiar?. I'll try to borrow my buddies dual rectifier. I'll post another mix on friday.

the trouble im having with the 5150 is if i dont turn up the gain i dont get any chunk on lower chords, any suggestions

This is correct. The guitars should not need any compression. Be aware that some hobbyists post here as well as professionals. You have to watch who you take advice from.

um, well anyway, I am certainly a hobbyist/semi-pro but I think my advise is good (in this particular instance)

The gtr sample is from "the invisible"

The 5150 is a fine amp and you can get a lot of tones out of it( did I say "a lot" I mean you can get A good tone out of it). Try two tracks each side make sure the tracks are TIGHT, then pan them 100%<75%----75%>100%

adjust to taste

Back off the fuzz , less is more, if you have to, mess with shelving ,after the fact say 100----3400, somewhere around there

If you feel like the low end is flabby try tightening up the front end with a tube screamer with very little distortion, just use the tone shaping to rein in the flab

rinse repeat etc.

Well the chunk comes from the power tubes and the cab, crank the amp until you see those speaker MOVE then dial in the gain, get those power tubes and speakers working for you

**** the neighbors, they'll get over it

for the record I really like the tracks and guitarwork! Music like this has been the reason for a couple of speeding fines in the past! Well done!

Thanks Malawk!, I'll def post again when i add vocals and remix it.

everybody's x - i appreciate the tips, im gonna try cranking the amp a bit more, i had it pretty low... neighbors :(. I think that could be a big reason. I'm also gonna give the tube screamer a shot. I'll let you know how it works out.

I think it´s cool. I like the dirty guit sound.
For some strange reason I thought of the band Muse.....

Just work on the toms a bit more, they are so obvious triggered/machine/replaced sounding...
