I´ve been so busy during the past years but finally I got some time to write music and It´s something I really enjoy doing. I have performed, recorded, mixed and mastered this song in my studio. I´m primarily a drummer (been drumming since early age, now I´m 19) but I give the other instrument a try once in a while... Heres the link: http://www.meandjune.com/Elof/brave_...bad_habits.mp3 My solo project is called Brave Dialogue and this is "Bad Habits". I would really appreciate some feedback on this one, both on recording/mixing and the performance. /Elof Last edited by Elof; 7th August 2006 at 09:52 PM.. Reason: new link to a new mix |

Unless you're going for an effect, I'd say the kick drum is too compressed (but I don't think the average listener would have a problem with it). Something else is a little "off" about the mix but I can't put my finger on what. Otherwise, it sounds great/professional and it's a good song. What's your setup? |

Excellent Man, I like the guitar lines alot. As far as the mix goes, if it was me I would bring the vocals down just a bit. Thats totally just a personal prefrence though. I wish I had your skills when I was 19.

Thanks alot for the comments! On the kick, I was going for a "disco sound" (mainly for the second verse) so I guess it´s some sort of effect I´m after, maybe its too fat though? Yeah, I´ll check the vocals on some other system, perhaps it´s too "in your face". I have a pretty basic setup, but I think it depends a lot more on who´s controlling the gear and mixing, than having the best gear. TAC bullet (28-8-2) console, motu HD192 (24ch), G5 w/ logic (psp plugs), event tria monitors, LA-610, some mics: audix, ev, shure, akg, line audio, røde etc... I mixed this song on my beyer DT770s, cause I can´t stand sitting in a concrete room with Event monitors |

I like the overall mix. It's a cool tune. I like the vox, the way they are. The snare could be pulled back a tad and the kick could use a bit of bottom end. It's an interesting tune. I like it... Overall, it's pretty darn cool. Nice work! |

Very nice. Good job. I really like that tune and think the arrangement is fantastic. The guitars are particularly reminiscent of early U2 to me and the vocal (and song) reminds me of british 80s bands - prefab sprout / ABC!!! Anyway, that one is going on my ipod for further listens. I thought the vocal might have been a tad tinny and really small bit too loud in parts. I agree about the kick, at times you really feel the compression. Good stuff. Si. |

Really nice guitar tone you've got there. I liked the vocal performance as well, a bit loud in the mix though for MY tastes. Good song Si P.S listening on DT880's sounds really good, but that won't help much! |

Sounds pretty good. I noticed some digital clips here and there through my cheapy dell computer speakers. Might check it out? Maybe the vox is a bit loud, but otherwise nice job.. ERic

Thanks again for the feedback. I guess I´ll remove the "disco idea" from the kick and bring vox down a bit. The gtr sound consist of the cheapest strat copy you can find, into a laney LC50, miked with a 57 into my LA610 with some compression. OK, I haven´t noticed any clips. There is some distorsion on the vox, but that´s on purpose. I´m´monitoring in DT770´s. I´ll definetly check it out. I´ll post a new mix in a few days... |

yea, i asked about your setup to see how much work you had to do to get it to sound like that. looks like the answer is "a lot"? no outboard gear other than the la-610? |

I could have bought a dozen behringers, but I´m going for quality rather than quantity. I don´t know what "a lot" is to you, but I listen carefully to a source before I start tracking it, moving mics around and getting the sound right so I don´t need to do so much in the mix. Or maybe, It´s just my ears? btw: a new mix is up on this link: http://www.meandjune.com/Elof/brave_...bad_habits.mp3 Less compression on kick, added some low end and brought the vocals back a bit. Hope you like it! | |
