Thumbs up Vinyl Thief - Mix Off

UPDATE: 2nd Song is posted!

Hello Slutz!

What I have here are the stems for two songs by a band hailing from Nashville,TN named "Vinyl Thief".

You can check them out here:
VINYL THIEF | NEWS

I am in the process of producing and recording their first full length album, and in our discussions about finding a mixer we decided to open it up to whoever would like to have a shot at it.

Once we end up finding mixer that everyone is happy with, we will have a $2k budget for mixing the rest of the record.

What we're looking for is Tom Elmhirst meets Nigel Godrich.

Have fun, and happy mixing!

Hi!

I'd encourage you to maybe put the track on Dropbox or some other free filesharing service (Google Docs?)

FTP is great, but it seems to me the upload bandwidth on your server is pretty throttled. I tried downloading yesterday, and after 3 hours it had done 300mb, and then the server closed the pipe, so I had to restart

Just a suggestion!

I just wanted to say it was the most creative/fun thing I've mixed in a long time. My tracks need some polishing, bet they are gonna be posted soon.

Thanks btreim!

I'm struggling with the second song right now.
Super odd in a very cool way!
I don't know what to do with it, it's so out of "everything", HA!
Faders up in waveform, sinus form or just plane.. it all sound already really cool, hahaha.

I'm really in love with the bass line at the end! It sound so ahmm (no words to describe)

I hope to show you a mix soon.
It's kind of making something out of nothing which is already something.
What a challenge!

Cheers,
Andy

I know exactly what you mean Andy, it's not "traditional" easy to mix music eh?!

Moraha - These songs have not been released yet, so you won't find them on the bands website. I would recommend just having a listen to some of the other slutz mixes posted on this forum!

Both mixes are keepers in my book! Did you mix this on the Siemens? Love the vocals, how the high-end/mid-end is done, it sounds so pleasant and nice, but not hyped! Wow! You are damn gifted!

Thanks for all the submissions everyone! I hope you all are having fun with these songs, and I can't wait to share the rest with everyone. Definitely a fun, out of the box record to record and produce!

Morten - Loved the drum treatment on the 1st vs / cho drums. Very nice. Had a nice glue overall.

Lets hear someone get a lil' funky and screw some stuff up! I'm not easily scared.

Hey Stefan,

thank you so much for your kind words!
Knowing how picky you are about vibe and feel this means really a lot to me!
Both mixes were done in Logic Pro, completely in the box.

Take care brother

Hidee - Great job!

Loved this mix from the beginning. My only comment would be that it seems a bit muddy. I think just a little gentle eq in the lower mid's could really make this mix shine! I downloaded your mix and threw an EQ on it to show what I'm talking about.

Awesome job though!
