Fresh outta college

Hi guys
This is my first attempt at doing this. In fact this is actually my first proper mix. It was part of my project for sound college. I haven't got my marks back yet but we'll see.

I vocals aren't sitting nicely for me and the guitars are a bit too top endy. Oh ya and ignore the weird guitar sound at the end of the bridge... I was just experimenting.

Any other comments or suggestions? How do I get those vocals to sit better?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot

Anyone? Even if you just help me with the vocals. I was using a Rode NT2 a Focusrite Red3 compressor.

Definitely captured the energy. No doubt about that. Might have pushed it a bit hard on the limiting. I like the tune. The vocals fit nicely in that section from 2:00 on through the seque part. Toms sound a bit odd around 2:45. Nice job overall though. Gets the point across. Keep up the good work.

For me, it's a performance thing; not so much on the screamed parts, but on the sung parts. Some of the edge is lost...maybe try parellel compression with an 1176, all buttons in...

As for the guitars (the distorted ones at least), they are a little fizzy; maybe Low Pass em somewhere between 6k and 10k...that'll make room for the OHs and maybe pull the drums forward.

Lastly, it sounds like maybe your snare mic is outta phase with the OHs; try flipping the polarity.

Anyway, kick-ass energy, nice performances, etc etc...you really got the song across, which for me is waaay more important and often more difficult than fidelity.

Try doubling the vocals and panning them both left and right, or triple them with one dead center, the other two 90% to 100% L and R. This may be a no-brainer, but hey.
