First Mixing Attempt

Hello Everybody!

Generally I am a gearslutz lurker and have taken advise off of this forum for quite awhile now. My band The Dead Rabbit Circus just began demos a few weeks ago and just started completing a few songs this week. While I have tracked for a few years now, we have always followed the advise on never mixing your own music. Well since these are just demos and we blew all of our money on mics, I have decided to finally take a crack at mixing.

"Bakersman" is my first completed attempt and I would love to get some feedback on the overall feel of the mix. After a few days of listening to it on several speakers, I do have a few tweaks in mind, but would love some additional opinions. Feel free to critique on anything and everything. We have thick skin and are aiming to better our final product.

Enjoy. (Hopefully)

I click on the player but it doesn't start playing any track. I give up, sorry.

Sorry about that. I swear that ReverbNation is broken half of the time. Here is an attachment. There is a "Vinyl Static" Sample for the first 10 seconds being used as a temporary placeholder which will be replaced by a an intro of sorts.

Apart from some tempoissues in the intro before the drums its a good song even though the voice parts are a bit dramatique but it fits in well.

do you have drumagog or similar?

I would replace or add to the snare and make it quite big. it rocks, but i think that would help a lot. and get more room sound on the snare. at the very least try a medium room verb on the snare on an aux channel and perhaps compress the reverb.

and deal with that hi hat. maybe put a de esser on it. i dunno.

I completely agree on the hi hat. I will definitely try a de esser. Maybe that will tame them a bit.

I do have drumagog and it is being utilized on this song. I will however play with some reverb to get it pop more. I was struggling a bit with it since the song is loaded with shadow notes on the snare.

Thanks to all who gave it a listen. I am going to go back to the drawing board and see if we can get some of this worked out!

I definitely will. Our guitarist wants to work on another part tonight, so if that works out, I will begin remixing later this week. Thanks for listening!
