Thread Starter | All natural mix (Demo) in the style of NEUROSIS and ISIS
Hello everyone. I recorded this group on one and a half days in my studio for pre-productional purposes (2 songs = ca. 20 minutes). I aimed for an all natural sound without the use of triggers, soundreplacers or amp-modellers. The drumset was pretty worn out and the amps will need some new tubes for the recording of the album at the end of this year, but all in all i am kinda satisfied. The stuff was recorded through an old TASCAM desk straight into the Pro Tools Mix³and also mixed ITB. Since even the snippet is too large to upload the MP3 to the forum i have to post the following link : http://www.enginear.de/graceaudio/tephra_referenz.zip (unmastered!!!) Looking forward to getting your feedback. Thank you. |

Not bad at all dude!! I like the kick and the room/overhead sound, vocals could maybe be abit more in your face, or guitars... i think the contrast you would make with doing this with one of both would suit the mix good, but thats just me!! Is there alot of reverb over the distorted guitars? they seem a little bit cloudy sometimes. But those were just the first things that came to mind, nothing bothers me in the mix. I do live sound and some pre productions for a similar band and if you have MSN add me up man (ramcore6@hotmail.com) , i would love to talk to someone who's into mixing this kinda stuff aswell!! mvg, JB. |

Hello JB. Thank you very much for your feedback. I appreciate that very much. You are right, the guitars lack some definition and also brutality, but this is a lot due to the playing of the guys because they nearly always play open chords and not 'riffs' at all - this mixed with guitars that not yet fit the riffs in a way that they are not the right models to play that kind of riffs (in my opinion) makes this slightly muddy sound. There is not much reverb on the guitars at all because i don´t like that too much. The vocals are supposed to sit in, if not a bit under the music. This is the singers form of artistic expression and i respect that. ;-) A bit more upfront would also be more to my taste but i also like it the way it is now. I don´t have MSN or stuff like that, but if you like you may contact through email or the private messages. Until soon. | |
