Mix off (Rap thing)

So I made this song. And its Ice Ice Baby converted to me in Danish . And I have a good feeling about it, but I can't help feeling that I'm killing it in the mix.
(In the bad death way)

Would anybody give it a shot? (Or tell me that I made the greatest mix in the world)

If you have a helpful comment on my mix it would be appreciated as well. Thanks.

What's up bro, I don't know what's going on with the site but it seems folks aren't as involved as they used to be...but then again it could be that website is full of guys who are looking for a quick fix (like me sometimes) and aren't coming on here to learn, or help folks out, just get answers, also it could be that this part of the forum isn't getting much viewers. With that said I'd love to give it a shot, but I'll let you know I don't run a $20,000 studio, and I'm not the greatest mixer in the world, but if your willing to let me take a crack at it for practice I'd be honored. Do you need my email so you can send the stems or is there a site you have the download located?

Hi man! Just had a listen to your song and the only thing that realy stands out to me is, when the instrumental part comes in, the melody instrument sounds to loud and bright, I would dull the sound and lower the volume, I would try to widen the sound so that it does not eat up the drums in the middle. The drum roll you use in the instrumental part sounds odd to me, try bring it up in volume maybe that helps.
Hope this helps you!

Cheers,
Jorge

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/31411469/tj%203.wav I mastered your mix in OP, can you PM me the wav file? I could master it again. Snare might be a little loud, but it eventually glued in with compression. And the synth (like Jorge Valtuena said) is way too loud and bright. Your stems are 550MB, does it have that many tracks?

Sounds good!
I'll PM you the wav. Both the original and a version where I have turned down the synth and worked a little on the toms in the chorus as suggested by Jorge.

Wauv. Great experience for me to listen to your mix. I really feel I've learned a lot.

You really gave the song a strong and clear direction and character. I see now how important this is. I really feel you had a clear idea with the identity of the song and where you wanted to go from the beginning.

It is more clear to me now what a mix means for the song in terms of character but also that a mix is not the difference between a good and a bad song. Only the song is good or bad or in between.

Thank you for taking the time to do this and I really like the end result!

I'am glade that you have learnt from my mix, I still think that the instrumental parts of the song need to grow in emotion, build up in complexity until the end, it would ad intrest to the song.
In hip hop it's all about the drums and vocals, so always work on them first.

I guess you're right about the song needing to grow or change musically throughout the song. It is a bit static.
Just to clarify. When you say always work on drums and vocal first you mean in the mixing fase, right?

Yes wannabeem I mean in the mixing stage, so when you compose think about the mix and what will have the most importance. The drums need to drive the song from start to end, and the vocals are the heart of the song, the rest is up to your creativity.

Rough Mix(no automation)

Here is my interpretation. No EQing just compression, filters, delay and delay. If you like it I could do some gain riding to make it pop just a bit more. Some of the key stabs need atty'd and some vocals could come up.
Overall I had a wonderful time (my pleasure) doing something different! I am always down with pro-bono work for upcoming talented artists.
BTW. Your recording was done very well! Plenty of detail and headroom. Keep it up!

Great!
This is a great sound for the song. I was originally thinking a Depeche Mode kind of feel, and I think your mix really captures this. Especially the bass sound is nice and raw.
If you want to spend more time making it pop some more I would love to hear the result.
