Thread Starter | song recorded using only one mic and fruity loops
recorded a song for a friends band at their place, using an SM58 mic a Soundblaster soundcard. orchestral samples are from the Edirol HQ Orchestra and everything was tracked in Fruity Loops 5. tell me what you think! thumbsup |

good samples... but extremely obvious use of samples (kickdrum too loud, hi-hat lacks dynamic change, a billion sounds going at once)... and PLEASE TUNE THAT BASE GUITAR!!!! or whatever that was at the end.. the electric guitar sounds like you recorded it over an old telephone. spend more time micing the amp and get some real sound on the guitar. I don't know what else to say... =/ .... try again? |

any tips on micing an amp properly? I think I had the mic shoved pretty far into the cone of the amp, but who knows .. |

mute all of that other stuff you have going on... have your guitarist start playing... move the mic around until you have it in a spot that sounds exactly like (or better) in the recording than how it sounds in real life. when you've got a good tone, have him go back and actually record. once you have good material to use... then you can toy with it. |
