Hi All :

DaveE .. great work. well balanced and controlled mix.( I do have some preferences .. i.e more bass and less brighter guitars .. But these are totally my preferences and personal taste.. This is probably reflected in my mix ).

Awesome work !!..

Here's my take on the song ..

My Notes ( with regards to my mix ) .

1. Replaced the kick drum .. but left the snare as is .. ( im getting lazier these days . A great snare sample / drum recording could have taken this over the top.

2. tested on laptop and mains ( with a sub) and am happy with the result.

3. Im probably close to winning the loudness war . But still managed to get in a bass heavy mix and some dynamics ( bass - very little compression and guitars - no compression . vox - very minute compression)

4. Didn't do any automation ( lazy ).. The overheads do need some riding since the cymbals can get irritating at times. But didn't have the time to do this.

5. Did not spend as much time as i would have liked to ..

6. I wish the overheads or room ( one of the 2) was in stereo. rather having them both smack down the middle in mono..

By the way for those interested ..

I put the same file on soundcloud as well.. When i play the soundcloud version it play some db softer ..

So in a mixoff .. If you put your file on soundcloud.. And some one else puts their mix directly as a mp3 on this site. You are more at a disadvantage with regards to loudness . And God knows everyone loves the loudest and brightest mix .

Well, after listening to me first attempt I can safely say monitor speakers are a GOD send. It sounded well crap!!! haha! So, he's a re-attempt...

Not happy with the guitar tone on the recordings, can't get it how I'd like it to be. Kick and snare have been replaced. Not gone mad with processing only uses a little eq and compression left it quite natural, that's about it really. No automation, no edits (well lazy) anyway...

this is my first mix off so im open to lots of criticism!

i have not finished, this is a rough version without automation
a lot of things need some work, or a lot of work rather
please let me know what you think!

the drums are natural from the recording, no triggers

Let me know if you like this mix. Its commercially ready now.
On my headphones .. I can't hear the bass. Also the guitars seem to not have any sense of movement or dynamics.

IMO.. without the bass properly represented things seems thin especially so in a metal mix.

Can hardly hear the snare my man, also too much high end overall on the master buss it's a little shrill but you're getting there! Improvement on the last one :D

This song rocks so much i cant stop mixing it LOL

Anyway, i raised the snare, fixed some more things i got really picky with. Tonight i am going to do a little more tweaking on the "toms" but other than that i believe finally after a few attempts that this is the winner.

Thanks man! We used a sennheiser 421 and a sm57. The tones came from a Tiny terror head and 2x12 orange cab.
