Holy Shit! Good mix.

This one sounds the best to my ears. Frequency balance is good, also sounds very "open". Any secrets/gear/insights your willing to share?

Thanks guys! I actually made a slightly better version with improved tom gating and snare triggering that I sent to the OP. Here are the notes I PM'd to him regarding what I did:

-edited some drums and guitar
-added triggered kick + snare
-automated cymbal + room mics
-notch boosted guitars around 120, notch cut around 500
-added delay fx to end phrases of vocs

Aside from that, mostly drum compression and volume automation.

DaveE, that has been an excellent mix ! Perfect balances - frequency and level-wise, clarity - especially in the low-end, width and punch (despite the cowardly drum-replacement ). Absolutely nothing to complain about. Full respect and envy alike!

As soon as I get anywhere close to your mix, I'll post mine.
My plan is to add some challenges for me: One is the absence of drum replacement and the other one is the restriction to the stock Pro Tools plugins for everything (except the final limiting maybe). If I succeed, I will post the session file for everybody who might be interested to look under the hood.

OK, here's mine.

As I've planned, I used the stock Pro Tools plugins (EQ3, Dyn3, ExpGate, bf76, D-Verb, Delay, Lo-Fi, Maxim) exclusively except for the final limiting on the stereo bus. I used IK's clipper and brickwall limiter for that, because even two Maxim instances in a row could not compete here.

My Pro Tools session that should load without errors on anybody's PT rig (you'll need PT9+ for delay compensation and assuming you have the audio files) is attached, too.

Got the tracks. Please, regardless of what you do, please upload the files for mixing. I'd LOVE to just mix a screw-around album, cause this is good stuff! Keep it up dudes! I'll have my mix shortly!

This can sound like a pro record, maybe do the folowing:
- scoop out low mids on guitars and drums (see if vocal will go up)
- if needed, vocal up

I'd like to participate but really busy right now.

Thank you very much! It was just a quick mix I did in less then 2 h. No automation on anything wich really needs to be done. But I´m glad you like it!

Any chance we could get the DI's for the guitars? Not to change the tone of the guitars but rather use them as guides for pocketing purposes.

To bad about the DI's but thanks for clearing that for me. Gonna have a go at it and see if I can do it like it is. Cheers!

On another note does the song have a tempo (162bpm seemed ok to me) but still better to ask

We started to record the song to a click, i think it was 162 il have to double check. I think there is also a tempo change about a minute in, i will check for you, but towards the end there is no click at all.

I just wanted to be sure about the tempo and yes I noticed there is a tempo change. The thing is with editing and getting everything in perfect sync the amount of punch is fabulous. It takes a lot of time bu the result is well worth it.

If you check it please let me now, I'll start working on it tomorrow as I have a couple of free days. Thanks!

Btw I love the tune. Very cool changes in there. You have a great sound going on.
