Mic or Pre Issue???

So I recently got a Langevin CR-2001 mic and a Roland Quad Capture so I would finally have a recording setup. Just for vocals since I'm writing and producing pop/dance music.
Anyway, I had a friend help me out and lay down some vocals and while I like the sound compared to a $100 mic, I'm not in love with the sound.

As you can hear in the RAW vocals, it sounds so muffled to me.
I'm not sure if this is the sound I should be getting with this mic or if I need to spring for a pre sooner than later (I assume it drastically changes the sound from just using the interface pre's and that's most likely the issue) orrrr get a different mic all together.

I need other ears to help me out! Any input helps. Here's a clip of the raw untreated vocals and one with some EQ/Compression/slight volume Automation.

Thanks!

Well the EQed version is not "better". Way over the top IMO.

The RAW Vocal is not bad, but yes it is a bit dark/muffled. Borrow another(better) mic pre and see if it helps the situation. If it does, you have your answer. If it doesn't, try a different mic.

Realize that a single mic rarely works on all vocalists. I always audition several mics depending on the singer. A mic that sounds full and airy on one vocalist might very well sound thin and bright on another.

Use the EQ to cut/attenuate as opposed to boosting. Remove the frequencies that are in the way.

The top end on the EQ'ed one sounds horrible.
