Thread Starter | Advice needed - first recording attempt (rock)
Hi all, I am not a professional musician at all, but just recently started experimenting with composing and recording some ideas and this is my first attempt at it. It is an intro to a simple rock song I am writing for fun. My goal is to achieve a classic warm and 'human' rock/blues sound without a lot of compression. Looking for as natural as possible sound... I`d appreciate any advice or critique about the 'production' (especially the guitar tone) or the arrangement/playing itself! Thanks! |

Come on, guys, no opinions? At this point it`s only a hobby. Honestly, should I give it up? |

Hi.....the overall idea is sounding nice but to my ears you are playing out of time. You have to pay more attention to this. After that you should check the engineering issues.

Thanks. Could you take some tame to elaborate on the engineering issues? What problems do you hear (except the guitar noise in the beginning, which I forgot to clean)? |

Hi...frequency allocation is the point you should think about and learn a bit more. Then you´ll get much more clarity and seperatiom between the instruments than every before. Plus you could improve the depth of the mix by a lever use of reverb and eq. Hard to explain all details.

Thanks! I better sit down and start learning and working then. So far I have the following channels and setup in my DAW. 1. Electric guitar - EQ (hi pass)/Limiter > Amp + CAB > Delay > EQ 2. Drums Kick - EQ (hi pass> Compressor > Reverb > EQ 3. Drums Snare - EQ (hi pass> Compressor > Reverb > EQ 4. Drums Overheads > Reverb > EQ 5. Drums HiHat - Reverb > EQ 6. Drums Room - EQ 7. Drums Bus - EQ/Limiter 8. Organ - EQ 9. Bass - EQ I have selected a frequency zone for every instrument/channel and have EQed them accordingly. But obviously somethings is not working... |
