Help get closer to Cake/Modest Mouse/Weezer sound

Hi folks,

I'd really appreciate your advice on this track. The band gave the feedback that this mix is too "clean" and sent me some albums from the bands in the title (though I already know and love Fashion Nugget from Cake for some inspiration).

I think the vocal could be a bit less in your face, the drums need to come forward but also be a bit more laid back (if that makes any sense), the bass is a bit of a mess and it needs some "glue"... but I'm at a loss for how to achieve all of that.
