WIP for your review...

I'm trying to achieve a good overall balance as the instruments layer throughout the songs' sections. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions regarding the mix.

Thanks.

Some comments:

That note at 1:01 sounds, for lack of a better word, sour. I think the problem is the bass not matching it, but I don't have a keyboard close at hand so I can do no actual testing. It might just be a personal thing too.

Secondly, and this is purely subjective, I would chose another sound for the synth in the beginning of the second half. Something slightly smoother.

My favourite part of the song is definitely the bit between 1:04 and 1:20 where it feels the most interesting to listen to. In fact I want to steal this part for my rock band! (but I won't, I promise!)

One thing you might try is to lower the overall level of everything in the song before and after that part and then raise it only there. That will give that particular part even more punch. You can do it subtler by just lowering drum velocities before and after that part and then increasing them slightly during it.

KGS,
Thanks for the reply. I'll listen closely on that note at 1:01 during the rising riff.

I'm working on getting that synth sound a bit rounder and friendlier. I like the way it glides into the next note. Trying to get a Cars "Just What I Needed" sound there.

Thanks again for listening, and I've got a great lawyer if you're getting any ideas. : )
