Ok, So I went back to the studio and did some tweeks after I thought about all the things I DIDN'T like about the 1st mix.

Here's the new mix.. See how this one makes you feel.

Sounds great to me, a more guitary polyphonic spree.

V3 sounds great. Defo got the polyphonic spree vibe.
Love the gtr hook at around 1:20
Nice drumming.
Great mix.
Really like the tune.

Nice 1,
Simon.

What a cool song

As for the mix, I really think the vocals could come up (refering to v3), and the guitar licks in the bridge could come out more, a lot more. They're the primary instrument there, they need to shine. The backing vox in the chorus could use some chorus or slight flange, or a chorus feeding a flange. Also, maybe a little more bass? Sounds a touch light on my speakers. The low end part anyway.

Also, everything has this similar aggressive-ness and overall tone, might be good to eq some instruments entirely different to make them stand out a bit. Might help with the "mushyness" of it all.

I think it's a KILLER song though, and is gonna sound amazing when your done

Just my thoughs

Cool, thanks everyone for the comments..
djui5- yea, I hear you on the lead vocals coming up and I might try the tweeks on the BG vox(s).

As for everything having a similar tone- that would be the MM1200 in my avitar
I'm still learning it's "sound" and how to work with it, but everything was tracked to analog live in one room (34x19x12) except the vocals ( overdubed later, but still to analog ) I think this is whats giving it the "mush" factor..456 15ips

this song was a super quicky thing that came out sounding pretty cool. Not bad for 4 hours of tracking

Anyhow, I'll post a new mix once I get a chance to tweek it some more.

I figured it was the tape machine. This is a good thing

vocals are thin, need some particular midrange.
for the "instruments sound all the same" - this would be an ITB symptom - try to use totally different channel setups for some tracks! (EQ and comp types..)

I had downloaded this and never did reply. I listened to V3 only. Yes, the vocals are practically unintelligible for most of the song. They almost become background noise to me. Maybe easing way up on the vocal effects might help also in addition to bringing them up and eq'ing them as the above posters mentioned.

I don't follow you here, Randy... ...why does 'mushiness' become a good thing when caused by a tape machine?

I do agree that the song sounds mushy though, especially on the chorus.

Now, the heavily effected vocals DO work at the end of the song where they are alone.

The sound effects at the beginning of the song are cool.

I like to be able to follow the kick in a song and I can't here.

Really?! I guess that's what makes the world interesting - that everyone has different tastes. I didn't really like this song much at all, though I made myself listen to it over and over in order to write this post.

I don't think the consumer cares how long it took to record something, but rather only about the quality of the finished product.

It dosen't. Using a tape machine is a good thing, but slamming it to hell isn't The songs oversaturated....

I was really refering to the use of the tape machine versus tracking straight to Pro-tools when I said "that's a good thing".

Appoligies for the confusion.

Good. Thanks. I agree - oversaturated.

By the way, I like the quote in your signature about great sounding vs. easy records - my feelings as well.
