Advice on mix and instrumentation. First mix posted!!!

Hi all,

Nearly finished a mix for a song that I've co-written with a singer. It's a R'n'B tune, a genre of which I have had little prior experience, from a listening and mixing perspective!

Anyway, I am kind of mixed out of it at this stage and would like some advice from you GearSlutz as to how you would improve the mix and instrumentation.

Here are some specific questions I have, but please feel free to offer your comments too

1) Do you think the drum samples Ive chosen is right for this genre?
2) I was thinking of adding some instrumenal licks at various points in the tune, what instrument would you choose and where would you add them
3) Would you alter the arrangement?
4) Would you change the guitar sound?
5) I have Adam S2a's which dont go damn low, how does the bottom end feel for you? Is it dominating, or lacking?

I'm really looking forward to hearing some feedback. I've a lot to learn so bring it on.

I think it sounds damn good man! Good dynamics. I think the finishing touch will be when you master. Some high-end sparkle and clearing up in the low end... Sounds good - good work!

Sounds nice. They only thing that sticks out to me is the relationship between the bass guitar and kick drum. They seem to be in the same range too much. I think if you use a lower kick drum sample, you will find it will bring out the foundation better and lock in with the bass giutar without fighting for the same space... Great vocals! Nice tracking on the vox. The vox may be a bit too compressed though. Let them breathe... Nice tune.

Great song, marwin gayish?

Comments: I think the kick has to much click, I would like it to be a little bit softer. Especially when you make doubble beats this sounds anoying. To fast attack.

The guitar sound really great! Do not change!!!

The electric piano is also great!

A synth solo would be nice!

Thanks guys for the comments. I will have a play with the kick and bass and also look to pull back some of the vocal compression.

I might also look at some kind of synth solo too. Thanks for the suggestion.

Marvin Gaye, nice! The singer kind of gives me a Stevie Wonder vibe too.
