I was impressed how controlled the dynamics are, without sounding super compressed. I really don't like this kind of music personally but I think you nailed that typical "sound" spot on, the band loves it right?

Take care man

Hey Joakim!

Thanks for listening buddy! Well, I really tried to get a good loudness level without crushing it like most of the commercial release I used as references. I didn't sent the mix to the band yet because I wanted to have feedback from the folks here before I send it! Having an outside perspective and a second pair of ears is always aprpeciated!

Thanks!
LT

Whole mix could use a bit more high end, maybe a multiband comp pulling up from about 6K and up a decibel or 2

The mix had originally more top end but the band asked to have the guitars and the mix a bit darker..

I don't hear anything I'd want to fix. Brickwalled to hell in a good way of course.
I can hear ever detail of the song, everything is in balance. I don't think you need to change frequencies or levels. Just send it to the band.

Would be nice if you post it in MixOff. I rarely can hear good balanced heavy guitars in metal songs like this one.

Thank you very much! Listening back to it with fresh ears this morning, I feel like the guitars could come down just a little bit.

I'm still waiting for the feedbacks from the band!

No I didn't but I just bought it to check that out! I also just received the feedback from the band and they are super happy with the mix I won't touch it!

That sounds really good. I listen to a lot of metal and music like that and it fits really well into that genre. I feel like there could be a little more top end as well but if the band wants it darker give em darker.
Great Mix!

Thanks man! I also feel I could add 1.5 or 2dB at 8khz on the master and and I'll probably convince the bands of letting me do that. They are probably the less objective on this mix since this song (and the whole album) has been previously mixed by another mixer.

Song sounds fantastic, Luc! Guitars aren't too loud at all. In fact, if you listen to some things that Neal Avron's done, his guitars may even be a touch hotter. Did they double track the main rhythm guitar that's panned left/right? And while it could probably stand a touch of high end, if no one would have mentioned it, I'm not sure I would have noticed.

Great work, as always!

Hey buddy,

The rythm guitars are one take hard panned left and one take hard panned right but I did some processing during the mixing to make them sound wider and beefier. Guess what? The band finally agreed that I should put back the top end I originally had in my first version of the mix! I'm going to post the final mix really soon. The band also agreed to double the lead guitar during the chorus so I won't have to pan it on one side or another or in the middle fighting against everything else. The chorus will sound much cleaner!
