which one?

I listened to comment te dire adieu and I liked it. Is it an original composition? (my guess is no, since you're german and the words are in French but you never know!)

the singer, or "leadgesang" as you call it, is a bit off on some notes, but nothing to distact me too much. I very much like what I am hearing and will listen to your other songs! Das ist gud! (did I say that right?)

In blue red and grey, you use the a cool effect on the guitar. However, I hate to say this, but the singing was a bit off. I think your signer is more often flat than sharp, as the last note of the song was flat. There is a slight bit of hesitance in the notes, and I think it's because of the hesitation due to to the language. Maybe she is thinking too much about the words? By the way, the words I found interesting, it's like a story, right?

Oh, a reply!

Thanx for your input, PNP transistor, and your appreciation!

The songs are covers allover basically from 30s to 60s stuff like adriano celentano (the comedy actor), french and german/austrian singers and deal often with romantic or slutty stuff (pimp and hoe, moderated wording as in the heydays). There's also the inevitable Waits song and others, "Blue, red and grey" is The Who, really.
Vox are flat mostly, you're absolutely right. I recognize this as a typical confidence issue, heard with many singers before, and uncompensated or sorted by, well, exercise. We're hobbyists, that is (nonetheless, don't get me started with Alicia so-called "Keys"...).
I found that comping and messing around with correction is of limited use only to a certain amount. If it should raise the bar for the band's live performance, it's gets only so far as the band generally lives up to that standard.
Again, hobbyists we are, being busy with all sorts of dayjob (and for me family) stuff besides musicking. I on drums certainly don't live up to my standards either...recordings are as good as it gets under these circumstances, we are moderately happy.

Pimp and hoe? You seem to be in the right place! lol we're all slutz here...

Seriously, I find your stuff very special because it's not pop, and it's very well executed. Only the flat notes, but I can hear past that. The fact that you sing in two (or is it three?) languages, is amazing. Je parle(je suis) français so I can tell. I wish I could answer in German (I have a german family name) alas mein deutsch sucken

I honestly think people worry too much about how their stuff sounds, even on a forum like this. When you consider the fact that it's recorded well and sounds like stuff on the radio, then you needn't be concerned about details such as are mentionned in this forum. At least, in my relatively beginner opinion. The music is what we are conveying, not the container. (well to a certain extent, anyway!)

Cheers

Now already...

Hiya,

sorry for the pretty late reply, I'm glad you liked it.
Your "alas, mein deutsch sucken" bit is utterly funny, may I steal it by occasion?

What you say about the music/container is pretty true, to begin with, if the recording is in a situation where everyone is comfortable and in consent about the respective inner image of the stuff to be played ahead. From a good starting point it's the the functional safety of the operated gear rather than edirol vs. apogee or what do I know what else.
Our recording situation was a bit weird at that point that I had to control levels on my trusty Allen Heath GS3 while playing the drums. Otherwise it was not too bad, with half decent miking (Gefell um70s, 421, CAD m179) and sufficient tracks (a 1224 8track motu). Mixing was difficult, I had to change locations constantly, had no fixed environment and to break down the gear in between.
Next time, I'm hoping to activate the Otari 8track which sits in the keller collecting dust. Mixing onto the ol Studer b62 I got for free, that would be the whipping cream.
But that's the gear-lust part. Certainly in the western world, gear quality is not an issue anymore.
