Nice sound.
Like your "simple" set-up as well!

Some of the best I've heard on this forum -- and that's saying a lot. As there are some very talented people on here.

Gets too shrill when layered and close-miked.

great

That second song you posted was really, really good. You're the best example I've heard of making amazing recordings with lower end gear. It seems like you have great patience, you really pay attention to room sounds and aren't afraid to throw out takes that aren't perfect. That's a problem of mine, I always feel the need to use most of the tracks I record.

Thanks for the kind words. Right now I am woodshedding on the drums, bass, guitar and tabla. A big shipment of indian instruments should be coming soon. Will start work on an album in about 2 or 3 months.

Cool tunes.

And then I limit the crap out of almost every track with 10db gain reduction. And then limit the master by 5db or so.
You know, after reading that I thought it was kind of extreme... but to test it I tried the general approach on an elec/acoustic guitar quartet tune I'm doing and BANG, it's working for me. An unexpected find. Thanks!

BTW, the pictures you matched to the music for each tune were excellent.

Looks like I missed an earlier question about the bass guitar. It's a 1982 Ovation Ultra bass. Essentially just a P-Bass, but with an extra switch that can cut the low end. I had flatwound strings on it and was using a pick, palm-muted. Tone knob rolled off almost all the way. Lots of limiting probably, just like everything else.
