I think it sounds great, man! Very simplistic sounding, but it goes great with the mood of the songs. What did you record the drums with? The cymbals and toms sound great.

i did 2 close mics on snare and kick
mercenary sm57 on snare
sennheiser e902 on kick
both channels through an APA Juggernaut Twin

and 2 overheads for cymbals and toms
beyer m160s, aimed straight down (one on floor tom and one on snare)
both channels through a High Speed Preamp (Jim Williams)

all channels through Mytek 192ADC

An Ocean Between Me great f'n song I like it a lot.... As far as constructive criticism not being a hater but I really don't like straight in the box guitar tones. All the clean guitars sound fine but......... listen to the lead part at around 1 min 48 sec. The overdriven guitar sounds very..... sorry about this.... cheap and straight in sounding with no depth could you perhaps re-amp the direct guitar part and mic it and get some real amp sounding depth out of it? If not f - it the song is great just tryin to help cause I dig the tune.

thank you! i'm glad you dig it. and ty for the constructive crit

YES. you are very right about the lead tone... it lacks depth... sounds stiff and papery.. sadly, that was the overdrive channel of my extremely mediocre amp..
can't even reamp (did you think it was an amp simulator? .. if so, that's hilarious)

the guitar tones is a huge issue that bothered me....... so much that i have a new amp on order from Joe Morgan!

i plan to rerecord these tracks (along w new instrumentals to continue the series) w my new setup.. i have all new close-mics for the drums too.. and a Heil Pr-30 for gtr (the record used a modded sm57)... so this time around, tones will be deep ))

Great work sir, really nice mood, and you captured the intimacy of the guitar parts really well.

My only issue is in some of the bigger parts, the cymbals (including the hat) sound as if the overheads could have been raised up when tracking, are they nice cymbals? What was the room like?

ty! i'm glad you enjoyed it i really appreciate the comment about the intimacy

i had the overheads for the cymbal & tom sounds.. which really sucked when i wanted to eq/comp either. i feel that my biggest mistake was not spending enough time on mic placement... and of course performance (since i knew i couldn't separately edit cymbals and toms)

for the most part, the cymbals are high quality.. except for the hats.. they are sabian AA's .... the crashes are Sabian Vault and Zildjian K custom

the room is a hall shaped 70'x12' garage w a 16ft ceiling
the drums are in the middle of the hall on a stage (a few sheets of plywood stacked on top of palettes)
