Siren - Remix stems - released for fun

Hi guys been a long time since I was here! Hope you're all good. Anyway..

For the fun of it, we released the 60 stems to a song of ours from last year called 'Siren'. You can download the stems and see what you come up with.

Get your remix on

It's not a CC license or anything, but it's 100% our song and recording so as long as you don't go making a million quid out of it (yeah right) without telling us we don't mind. If you do come up with something you think is awesome just give us a listen or upload your version to our Soundcloud account.

I guess the main thing is, if you come up with something that is beyond the bounds of 'having some fun' and end up in a commercial situation just get in touch. And if you don't - just have fun with it.

Cheers

Julian

Perhaps a nicer way to put it would have been 'Could we have the full fat files please'?

I've got no problem putting up the full fat aifs if anyone's interested - I used mp3's simply because the session was pretty big.

We made a tiny screencast just so you know what you're getting into. And we're going to upload the full fat version so you can have the proper aifs asap.

I'm tinkering with these at the moment. Giving it a bit of a metal tinge.

Thumbs up

I'm in the middle of building a new studio, but I'll give it a shot as soon as I'm done

Hey I just sent you guys my mix. I was wondering if you could give up a couple tracking details, such as Stephanie's vocal chain? Also, was the bass programmed and if so, with what? Great song you guys! Loved mixing it!

The bass was a stock sample in Logic I just played in.

Steph's vocal chain was TLM103 / Neve 9098 / UA compressor (can't remember compressor, something like that)

Saying that, because you've got stems they've already been through stuff on stem-mixdown.

Usually for Steph's vox in the box it goes something like:

Vocal Rider (love this thing for sorting levels out without adding compression)
Oxford Supressor (God knows how I survived before this de-esser)
CLA-3A (nice compressor with a bit of a vibe)
Channel EQ (usually knocking out a bit of room at 270Hz, cutting quite a bit around 1580Hz and a very tight cut of a lot at 3550Hz - this is as much to do with that mic being a bit hyped as anything)

SOMETIMES I'll add a bit of 'can't put my finger on it but sounds brighter without being too bright' from the Abbey Road plug-ins when I'm bouncing vocals. But sparingly. (RS127 is good for that)

Before I had the Oxford Supressor I had to jump through many many hoops to de-ess the vocals so I liked them using all kinds of side chains and wotnot in Logic. Took forever, hated it.

Thanks for the mix, Splendiferous!

It's now up on our website, underneath the original article. Give us any website you want mentioning and we'll give you a link to go alongside your mix.

That goes for anyone else - if you have a crack at it, share your mix with us on Soundcloud, give us a website address and we'll link back to your home planet.

Thanks again, Splendiferous (Clifton!)

Julian

Hi. Thanks for sharing your files. By the way, they are also available in wav format on Martin Walker's site: http://www.cambridge-mt.com/ms-ch15.htm#audio

I've had a go at it, without actually listening to the original song. I've uploaded it on your SoundCloud page.

Best regards
