HELP! Band isnt open to suggestions

so i was recording a band yesterday
and we got the drums sounding good and all
recorded All of the drums yesterday and when it came to playing Guitars
it came to my attention that alot of their sound was choppy when recorded
i tried all i could to get it to fit in but it just sounded like a whole bunch of well crap
now i tried to tell them if we could switch it up a bit and maybe play cleaner and their lead guitarist insisted that the song sounds perfect like that
now my question is should i just keep it that way
and finish tracking the song and give them a really bad recording
or should i try to get the Best possible recording by changing it around a bit
and how would i go about telling them and letting them understand that all im trying to do is get the best performance from them?

Thanks

if they think its perfect then give that to them.
but make sure the whole band agrees not just the guitar guy.

i would not change anything unless they ask AND PAY for it.

Split the guitar signal

DI it and feed the amp

Recording both only play back the amp to the band

You then have a clean signal you can re-amp on your own to prove it

Tell the band its a safety copy or something

Job done

its only the guitar guy whos telling me its "perfect"
their singer is like dude it sounds off time and very weird and so does the
rythm guitarist their leader and lead guitarist is the only person who thinks its perfect and i meant like the performance itself tone wise its great but the playing is whats bothering me

Are you a good enough guitar player yourself to make
concrete suggestions about how to change the playing? Maybe its a stylistic choice. Are you familiar with the bands these guys like? Leader of the band is often the best or most experience musician, unless you are 100% sure he can play it much much better then just let it slide and keep the project moving forward.

i believe i am a good guitar player considering ive been playing since i was 5
and i know that we can get a cleaner take because honestly its off time at parts and theres a whole lot of fret buzz all over the place

THIS is a word in all caps. Capitalization of the first letter of a sentence helps the reader know when there is a new sentence.

. This is a period. It helps the reader know when a sentence ends.

Comma use would be nice also, but I will settle for capitalization and ending punctuation

If the lead guitarist is going to be adamant about it, leave it. Let your opinion be known to the whole band. In the end you have done your job.

If you are happy with the drum/bass/rhy guitar. Then get this guitarist into the control room. Patch him through to his amp.

Give him the mix / parts he only needs to lay down his track. Should get better monitoring in the control room.

Maybe i'm not understanding what exactly is going on. I might suggest that you layer his sound. Record his sound and also the sound that YOU KNOW is best. that way you can both meet at a happy medium. Disregard my post however i might not have a full understanding of what you are saying

you should sit them all down together and make them all decide together what they all want to do. dont get caught in the middle of their fight.

Ditto, sit them ALL down together, no he said she said behind backs etc...

I've gotten caught in the middle where one guy wants a ton of kick and the next comes back saying way too much and then the first guy is looking at me like I'm deaf or dumb.... let them hash it out, make suggestions, in the end do what you're told/asked.

Re the last 2 posts, my intention for my suggestion above was to try and get a bit of self realisation from the guitarist

He has no excuses if he tracks in the control room with the parts he needs to hear to lay the track down.

Better approach than causing a band fight in my opinion

You make a good point though the OP said

their lead guitarist insisted that the song sounds perfect like that
so whether it's you asking him for a retake in the booth, or get the band to cosign, or just drop the issue and let them pay you to do what they want you to do sounding like S*&^ or otherwise... but I do see your point tracking in the booth. Some guitarists will not take kindly to the suggestion though, similar to in ear monitors, some are just not open to new/strange/foreign ideas.
