Man,
I dig it!

Nice job. It reminds me a bit of the latest Padro the Lion record. Not so much the vocals, but the recording quality(which I think is pretty damn good!)

It feels like you captured "that sound".
I'de love to know some more about the recording chain. especially the drums..

God damn...finally. I've been the guy that goes....why doesn't my stuff sound like that. I got caught up in gear for the first couple years. Bit the bullet last year and moved to learn from someone i really look up to for 6 months. Came back and this is what comes of it.

The drums were pretty basic. Actually everything was pretty straight forward.

kick in-cheap cad mic into api3124
kick out - subkick - tg2
snare top - i5 - 3124
snare bottom - 57 - tg2
floor tom - d5 - sytek
OH - CAD m179 - 3124 (in recorderman setup)
Room - Studio projects B3 (blumlein is that how you spell it) - sytek

All guitars went from a good sounding tube amp - 57 - tg2

oh yeah...it helps to have a lavry a/d and d/a

Thanks for all the comments. I'm feeling much better about mixing since i got these new monitors.

I'm a big fan of J robbins fan, so that's an awesome comparison. I'm doing everything in Nuendo.

With these monitors, I finally feel like i have some idea as to what's going on in the low end. Maybe it was my fault before for not having monitors that did better in that region, but the bm6's that i had just didn't have enough info down that low and I felt like i was just guessing on bass guitar levels a lot of the time. Only to take it to the car and figure out if i got lucky or not. I'm still trying to get used to how much more low mids the asp8's have. I don't think it's really about them though, rather how little low mids the bm6's have. But with a few references mixes during mixdown, it's been really easy to get used to. Buying them was probably the best thing I've done for my sound.

Yes, I like the song, and the recording mixing job sounds great. Some one said it above, you kinda get lost in the song.... just enjoying it.

good job !

Great mix, I really love the guitar sound! What kind of plugs did you use on this mix?

Great work!

MXL v69 -> api3124 for both

All eq was done with UAD cards. Used Voxengo marquis on the drum buss with some pultec. LA2's on the vocals with a little UAD eq. Filters were the cambridge. Leveled bass with LA2 and eq'd with cambridge.

The internship was the best thing I could've ever done with my recording.

Drums went through the fireface. Everything else went through Lavry a/d.

I took a lot of 300 in the kick on both mics. that's about it. Snare, took out some 300 and about 800, to get it more mushy. To be honest, my drums have improved more and more since i started concentrating on drum sound and tuning. The snare was my favorite part of the project. It was a beat up head that was tuned real loose. 6" deep brass snare. I love the sound of it. A little bus compression brought out the length of each, more so the snare. The room added the ambience on the snare and a little verb was added as well for some depth on the snare.
