Home Studio meets Pro Drums

We spent a day at a really great studio in Vancouver (The Hive) where we tracked intruments for 8 songs. Then headed back to my humble home studio in Victoria to track vocals and overdubs. We doubled most intrumental parts (except bass).

Our style is very informed by Neil Young's Trans record.

Now we're finally starting to finish off some mixes. Let me know what you think of them.

PS. The streams off of myspace really suck, so it is preferable to download them (they are 192 kbps mp3s), and then you can delete them right away.

No, most of these are essentially final mixes (got your pm djui5 ). We are weighing having a pro mastering job done, tho.

I've had a response that vocals and bass are too low, so they are going to be boosted.

all in all sound pretty good.... nice seperation of instruments... vocals pretty low and tracks would need to be mastered to bring the whole track to the forefront... but pretty nice sounds...

how you mix these? ITB?, console?

r.

All mixed in the box. We're doing some remixing right now that'll be up soon.

Cool. I'm pretty sure I'm going to book The Hive sometime next month to track some bed tracks. Who was your engineer, Colin?

The tracks sound good - I liked Time On My Mind, especially, but I wish these were hi-res mp3's instead of myspace to really hear em. Myspace sure serves a purpose but it totally ****s with your high end and does some whack arbitrary low end hyping I've found.

Yeah, Colin did the beds. He's great.

You can download the full quality mp3s.

I listened to 'Time on My Mind'. Heavy sound - I like it. I like the ambience on the drums - very real and present. I think I would bring up the vocals a tad. Also, I kinda expected to hear some kind of lead guitar, or maybe sax, especially near the end. Otherwise, very nice and beefy.
