Thread Starter | Need some help bad..
Hey everyone, I have been working on this song for a couple of my buddies but every time I give them a mix, they ask for something else. First they want something bright, then they want this song to sound like some other song, and today they're complaining about how they want it to sound like their own style. I've had enough of them and I just want this to sound like a solid mix and I'm having troubles making this sound just plain solid now. I need some help on this mix real bad. Both mixes are squished by a limiter sorry but I'll try to post up a mix later.. -Thank you very much |

Hi shinie104, Stopped and took a listen, sounds like your having a bad time of it. Sounds to me that both mixes are pretty solid. The first one fits the song best to my ears, though I think it could use a volume ride/balancing on the lead vocal, especially on the first verse which is a little loud... probably like 1-3db somewhere in there... and also on the bg vox harmonies that come in during that verse as well. Lead on 2nd verse is a better volume, but still slightly high. But all this is no big deal really. The chorus could come in a slight bit more dramatically for musicality purposes. Either larger or more stereo at first, or a little more different-- to give some contrast to the verse. The second half of hook is better. The guitar during bridge could showcase a bit more and vocals could ease there. Just some dynamics and rides for musicality is all I feel/hear. That first mix suits the song well, which is a bit Beatle-esque to me. The band will find it's audience with that sound. The upfront vocal and bright sound is complimentary to the song. If they want something "different" or "their own sound" it might mean a production meeting is in order to define the direction more clearly. Things to consider: message of song? big or intimate sound? showcase vocals, guitars or rhythm upfront? mainstream pop/rock eq, or psychedelic/experimental eq? what is the song trying to convey? Most important thing to remember is to enjoy the process! It'll turn out great. -md |
