Thread Starter | Hardcore Mixes I've just got done (For fans of Ceremony, Trash Talk, Minor Threat)
So I just recently have gotten done with these two bands, React and Break. They both sound a lot a like, but it was really awesome doing this style because it's so full of energy. For Break I used live drums, experimented with mids more than I normally do, and used a variety of different plugins that are foreign to me, like Slate FG-X (which is awesome by the way). I did the two songs that are on the link below. Now React, I did what I normally do, which is programmed drums (addictive drums), lots of compression, my standard mastering plugin, etc. I did all ten songs that are on the link below also. If anyone could please listen to each of the projects and tell me which one I was going in the right direction with, I would be very thankful. Tips, pointers, criticism, etc. is always appreciated! Stick with the live drums. Even if you trigger em. The programmed drums just sound too fake, and it doesn't work well with the genre. Overall the React tracks sound thin, especially in comparison to the other stuff. I like the idea for the bass sound but it has no balls behind it. On the BREAK stuff, the guitars could use maybe a little less low end and have the bass fill it out more. |

yeah i think i will stick with the live drums. i tried to sample them in 50/50, rather than having it be fully triggered. As for bass, ive DI's everything, so I think for the next project I do im gonna try micing up the amp so it has balls. I will turn the low's down on the guitar next time also thanks |

Yeah, the React drums sound too sampled. I prefer the React material though overall. The React guitars sound a little thin. I think there's still work to be done in terms of getting the EQ balance between the guitars and bass. The bass sounds good when it's on it's own, but it gets kind of invisible with everything else. The balance on "Old Problems" is closer to the end result you want, I'd say - the guitars sound fuller on this one. The Break stuff sounds very clean and precise - which is kind of the sound everyone seems to shoot for these days - but I'd prefer it to sound a little more grainy and warm. Is it an ITB mix? A bit of warmth is needed for me. Or just something to **** it up a bit: some feedback/extra nastiness or something. |
