drum mix feedback - dirty garage rock anthem style

hi - all

i would be interested on any feedback (even "negative") on this quick mix of some drum sounds i tracked this afternoon.

its rough and dirty (for a track of a fellow forum member), so the performance is not great. but i wanted to try out some new mics and placements.

the dirt and crunch is intentional, the song is sort of rock anthem / garage-y type style. thanks in advance.

Hiya,

How was this recorded? Just sounds like room mics/overheads to me.

And while they sound great as they are, you'll probably find that the kick and snare get lost when you add everything else in.

You'll need to mic those as well, I reckon.

Nice though!

Jim

thanks jim

i do have mics on the snare / hh / kick too. but i also added some room sound to the mix, so it might sound more roomy that it was actually recorded.

good point with the kick and snare. like i said, im just tracking the drums as a favor, and not mixing the whole song, so i guess im going for a good all-around drum mix.

im also a drummer myself - sometimes wonder if this taints my ear for a drum mix that blends into the rest of the track well.
