2 mixes...one wet, 1 dry...like to hear some feedback

I did this tune about a year ago, picked up on it again and re-did the vox a few months ago. I had what I thought was a decent mix, but started futzing with it the other night, and pulled back all the plugs but some basic stuff. Seems better; interested in hearing comments on the mix.

Love this song, Ron. One of your best performances as well. Both mixes have merit, but I listened more to the technical aspects, and less to the song, in the case of the Dry mix. I preferred overall your wet mix, although clarity was better in the Dry instance. One thing I will say is your use of wide panning, without much down the center in the Dry mix, didn't flatter the intro to my ears.

Really enjoyed the whole thing though, Ron.

Thanks...took me awhile to get back to this! (I have a new job that is sucking up much of my fun time).

Anyway, I may automate the panning then. I did the wide panning to get a clear vocal space to work with. The upper chord organ way to the right is a little obnoxious at times, I had a multiband on it before to tame it. It won't pan like it should because for some reason I used 2 mics and recorded a stereo track instead of 2 tracks. I may be able to seperate them, just haven't figured it out yet!

At least on my end in 24/48 the song sounds richer/warmer/fuller being dry. I need to find a happy medium; it's so easy to dull things down using lots of plugs...I want to get to the point of using just the room and a great tone w/o effects....part of the learning experience I suppose!

The main electric was a blackface princeton reverb mic'd with a AT4050/sm57 combo. I used amp distortion, and for the clean picking parts the amp's tremelo. The slide was done with a home-made tube amp, which was a modded Magnavox phono player from the 50's through a 12" magnavox speaker. I used a big muff before the amp, and mic'd it the same as the Princeton. I DI'd the bass, and also ran it through the princeton and mic'd it.

I picked the chord organ from the curb (a cheapie dbl row Sears from the 70's). I took the cover off the top to mic it, picked up a lot of clicking from the keys though. It's gone to a better home now, but I'm looking for another decent chord organ to replace it...they sound f'n awesome with acoustic guitar strumming.
