Hi, I'm pretty new to the message board and recording/mixing in general, so be advised that I don't really know what I'm talking about. But I did listen a few times through, on headphones and nearfields. That being said, if the band wants to be seen as "indie", I don't think it's coming across. The mix sounds like mid-90s alternative radio to me. The song's not bad at all, but I think you could liven it up. The guitar sound is nice and thick, but I'd really like to hear some more dynamics. So you can really feel it when it kicks in on the chorus. It works well in the chorus, but it just feels overbearing in the quieter parts. Maybe double the guitar part with acoustic or a cleaner, prettier electric, then just bring up that current part when everything is going full bore. Or maybe just "thin" the guitar a little for those interludes. I think the vocal and drums should be the focus there. Anyway, I think the indie fans will appreciate a more interesting mix. Experiment a little. And ease off on the compression. Just my 2 cents. |

Thanks for the listen guys. Hammerfall: The band wanted just the live recording with no overdubs. I agree the sound is more 90s alt, I just categorized them "indie". I also agree with the too much compression statement. Jose: Thanks! DJui5: I'm just recording the band, so I cant answer for the performance issues. Glad you liked the guitar tone. I was pleased as well. Just out of curiousity, what do you play? Also, how long have you been in the Phoenix area? I live in Gilbert myself. |

Dim Light, I own 2 ribbons that need re-ribboning. I used a Cad M9 tube mic. Got to get those ribbons fixed. |
