"Forgotten Child"...My Song For Chris Whitley

When I first heard Chris was ill, I started soaking up his spirit and love through his own magical music and my family sent him blessings, peace and love.

I wrote this song with every intention of recording it and sending it to him as a healing message. It was only a couple of weeks later and he passed away...
That was surreal...

I let the song sit in my gut...

I finally recorded it yesterday...

All comments are cool...but I am not looking for mix help or anything cause I know it ain't a top recording...
I just have my personal project studio and it is damn bare right now....But I just want to share my heart and soul in a song for one of my genuine influences and true life passionate spirits and pointmen...

Brother Chris gave me hope and courage to be myself through his own music.
Chris was and absolutley remains a deep inspiration.

BTW friends...If you don't like reverb and such, please be cool.

Respect,

Thank you brother Glenn. Thanks for the listen and know that I too feel honored.

Man...been listening to Dirt Floor today...rotating over and over in the disc player. That gets me sad and inspired all at once.

It's so real it's unreal.

Respect,

Thank you so much...!! That is so cool to say and please know I feel the same.
...I brotherly e-love you too...(I think... But I don't think it is legal in Texas and I best not mention it to my wife... )

To be honest I genuinely like working with myself as a singer....(sounds funny saying it but...I am an easy vocalist to record) I know I was meant to get off the producing wagon for now and get back on my chosen path...

You know that gut fire? That passion that makes you cry with joy and stand up and shout out at the same time?

Damn...brother Chris gave that to me in spades...he was my beacon this time around...for real.

Much Respect IPIAB...

hey Rodney,

So clear that this is you and your spirit shining through for Chris. Also so clear to hear Chris's music reflected in your own. Thanks very much.

Dirt Floor is a great record... one I had been using as a reference the day that Chris died. Great loss but so good to hear you taking his influence and soaring.

Peace, Carl

Sounds really good Rodney. Nothing stands out as sounding like a home studio. Sounds professional and great vocals. Good stuff, keep up the good work.

Thanks for this post Rodney,

When I first heard Chris Whitley I was a teenager and it changed my life...
I saw him play live once in Seattle, Wa. He had just put out 'din of ecstasy"
and "Narcotic prayer" was the craziest song ever...

I will always remember him and that huge silver dobro... electrified somehow...
Also... him... ending the line.... "on dust radio..."

Brilliant... brilliant musician.
