| Gear Head | One Mic, One Preamp, One Indie Song
Me and my flatmate recorded this in our studio, aka apartment. I did the production, he did the drums. The bass on the track is kind of bad because I don't play bass, but please criticize me anyways because pain drives me. We used one mic/preamp for everything -- drums, instruments, vocals -- since that is all we have. PLEASE give me some general mix suggestions --- I'm limited to what I can do with the drums, since the drums are all on one track -- |

Hello darling! I like this very much - the high end is a little sharp though... Can you warm it up a bit? Good song

Very cool vibe. Nice Job, I really like the feel of the track as a whole. It sounds like there is a lot of high end boost on the vocals. I would bring that down and definitely try a de-esser to take the edge off of the t's and s's. Also, when the bass comes in at 1:32 I would try to back off on the compression and just automate it to control level, the pumping of the compressor is a bit much for me, personally. If you could get a little more low end and fatness to the bass in general I think it would help fill out the low end of the whole mix. Other than that, I would at least mute the vocal mic at the end when everything is dropping out. The guitar buzzing can be cool but the breath doesn't add anything IMO. Again though, nice job. A ton of potential there. Good job at capturing the drums too. How did you go about recording the drums? What kit, what kind of room, what mic, mic placement? |

Since you took the time to check out my song and say something I thought I'd try and find something you had recorded. That's cool as hell. It's very fun. I agree with the above statement about trying to warm it up a little bit, although I have no idea how you would do that. It just feels a little brassy. But the vibe rocks. It reminds me of something like Jeff Tweedy rocking out with Badly Drawn Boy. Nice job and keep it up.
