female singer

Hello, im an audio engineering student and for school i have to find a female singer to record. I have a girl who lives a couple blocks from my house and i would like your opinion on her voice.
She just recorded for her camcorder so the quality sucks but look beside that.

I also would like to know what mic i should use on her voice.

Plz comment...

Sound very Adele.

Quick question....

If your a AE student, why haven't you gotten her into the studio and recorded her properly?

She's got a great voice. But lets see you do her justice.

Its hard to gage her on that recording but try a U87 (no surprise there), C414 (no surprise again) or SE Gemini? Experiment.

P.S. If you can get a piano accompaniment to that track. That would rock.

P.S.S. Why is that I never get talent like that to record? I just attract smelly moody fake Pete Dohertys...

She has a beautiful voice, just a little over the top sometimes with the forced vibrato effect. Get her to sing something straight tone (some cliche classical songs...Ave Maria or even some Christmas tunes) and her voice will pop right out.

Out of what mic though, no idea! New mic gearslut here too! Good luck with the project

I'd probably go for something with a little more character if you have the option. Maybe something with a little warmth to it.

Get her to try the C414 and the 4400 and Gemini. Make it involved though. Don't just stick her in the live room with those mics. Talent is famously easy to exhaust.

Maybe because I'm hanging round the kind of people Mum would have told me not to. The only really good talent I've met are a little too big headed.

*sigh*... Thats life.

How many lead singers does it take to change a lightbulb?

Just one, but he likes to stand still while the world revolves around him

Seriously though, decent selection there, the sE tubes should be nice.

If she can take direction she'll sound great. She needs to trade some of that fake soul vibrato for some real emotion. (why do all singers think they sound soulful when they jump around and add vibrato to everything?)
I would go as simple as possible. Put an SDC on the guitar, an LDC or ribbon on vocals and put up a room mic and just let her play.
