Billie Bounces to a jazz head-bob

So much work;so little time! I love to be busy. I don't record much jazz, so comments are more than welcome. It's very dry. I liked the intimate feel with almost no reverb. the bass is loud by request of the client (it's his demo for some school in the states). Just a young guy (18 yrs) and very talented I find, but I never listen to jazz so what do I know! Drummer rocks pretty hard for a jazz player (oops did I say that) and the piano player is really holding back ('cause it's the bass player demo).

Tell me what you think, and I will make bad excuses to cover my tracks...
it will be fun

Cheers,
FB

As I listen now, the bass is too boomy! Crap!

Note to DL: this is a better piano sound that was offered to the reggae band in another thread. Still not real, but what'cha gonna do when you live in a shoe?

Sounds good man. I see what you mean about piano man holdin back but what can ya do. Just throw a cough and a "yeah" in the beginning and you've got one helluva jazz track!

I think the OH sound phasy and too loud and there is some distortion in da drum track. The piano need to cut through better and the bass as it's mixed now take away some of the focus that the piano needs.

The reggae mix was better . my 2 cents.

Last word,
You rOCK!

I'd push the bass back in the mix, maybe move it off center to the left a bit. Also, the hi-hat is too loud compared to the rest of the kit. Not sure what kind of control you have over this since I don't know your mic setup on the drums. I like the snare sound and the piano sound a lot, so I'd let them get a little more attention. Also, maybe let the last hit fade out a little longer? I think it might have more effect that way.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Your thoughts pretty much mirrior my own problems with the mix and I will do another mix just to satisfy these concerns but, as I said, this was done to the client's specifications (I hate mixing with the client over my shoulder ) .

Thanks for listening and have a happy New Year,
