Mix sounds good. Master seems a little pushed, but that is the style today. Good job.

Thanks, I thought it was a little pushed too, but everybody I show it to likes it so I had to let it be ehe I hate the fact that it's the style today, it's should be easier on the ears, not fatiguing. Thanks for the input!

All the cymbals except the hats are way too soft, and the bass is very 'honky'. I'd almost go as far as saying it's the complete antithesis of what punk bass sounds usually are. Not that you can change it now, but the bass is slightly sharp too.

Other than those two glaring issues, it's a really good mix. Perhaps especially so given those issues.

yeah good mix.

The drums sound quite machiney, but then (sadly) they often do in this genre these days. Even with that in mind, I'd still have taken the kick down just a tiny notch.

I might have made the vocals and guitars a tiny bit brighter, but that's a matter of taste.

I think the bass sounds fine, so do guitars, drums are fine too....but the vocals are not right. They sound dull, muffled, and really smashed.

For this kind of music the vocals are usually far brighter.

like the song/content, all "n all. Works. Marketable. Squashed about right for progressive punk. thumbsup

A bit of pop punk Sir? Umm, yes please...

Nice to get your head blown off occasionally...

Is there a slightly weird stereo problem on vocal during verse?

Also is it a bit too squished?

Something's messing with the vocals during verse!!!

Dynamic range of 5db, peak "overs" and rms of about 6 - the master has distorted this to shit, I'd like to hear it with it's tone back in...

Yeah there's a couple of weird things going on with the vocal I started to notice it after mastering, probably something in the mastering itself, I do feel the loudness though.

Should I post an unmastered version?

Here's the non mastered version, pretty low in volume though and drums are a bit higher so they can level out when it got smashed in mastering.

Sounds good to me, the singer reminds me occasionally of mr billy joe armstrong, but I have to agree with some of the other guys around here, there's definitely something weird with the vox, it sounds like it's coming from the middle of my head/muffled either side of the vox-spread out?! It's probably most noticable in the first verse when it's just the vox, bass and drums. The backing vocals balance it out slightly during the chorus, but it's still noticable. The problem's still there in the unmastered version, unfortunately the mastered version just exaggerates it. The guitars sound good to me! Cool song

Hi I just realized what the problem was, I´m so dumb, it was something I tried with a short delay to spread out the vocal a little more, I exagerated the effect a little to much that´s what´s causing phase issues on the main vocal.

The guitars were all coming out of a Vox AC30. The main rythm guitars were recorded using a 1984 Gibson Les Paul Studio, 2 sm57s in a weird xy , one mic looking at the speaker, the other looking at the room at 90deg, the second take is the same only the mics are flipped in position, this gives you 2 rooms and 2 directs, which panned respectively gives you two takes of guitars in a room, much more convincing than just two dry takes. These sm57s were going into 2 Purple Audio Biz preamps and into pro tools, I also used a Keeley DS1 pedal. The rest of the guitars and reinforcements were recorded using a 1991 american Telecaster, with an OCD pedal, a D112 mic into a Shadow Hills Mono Gama pre.

In the mix I used SPL Twin Tube to brighten them up a bit adding harmonics around 6K, since I like recording guitars a bit less bright to have more breathing room without them sounding harsh on the high end.
