Question Metalcore Mix - Help / Suggestions?

Hi all,

Just recorded 6 tracks with a friend's band...metalcore type stuff. Can any of you offer me any thoughts on the mix? I'm having a bit of trouble with the bass...as you will hear in this, the bass guitar comes out quite loud, but so far, its either too loud or not there at all! The bassists technique was less than stellar, but I compressed a bunch to hide most of the inconsistencies....i don't know...maybe the guitars are the problem - not enough low-mids in them perhaps?

Here's the link: Torture of Regret

Anyway....please give me any thoughts you can...getting a bit lost in here! Ignore the one or two timing errors...i'll do my best to sort them later.

Thanks in advance...

i think you got it right...the guitars are TOO thin and gainy...they need more definition. I've had the same problem.
live and learn...i know i still am learning.
maybe less reverb on the vocals??? help it be more "raw"?? not sure.

post the updates/remixes!
peace

I there's way too much reverb on the guitars. They just kinda mush out of the speakers. Whatever that random "KSHSH" sound on the drums is really bugs me. The vocals are way too drenched in verb. Give the guitars some more mids. I'd say start with a boost around 800hz. To me, that's a nice range for a "meaty" midrange.

It seems like the band itself isn't too tight. The drummer in particular is driving me nuts. Good luck with this.

Thanks guys....points taken. I'll have another look with your suggestions in mind...I may have corrected one or two things though, along those lines myself though. Would love to hear what you think...

New Link: Torture of Regret New Mix

and here's another, shorter track...less timing cockups: Callous

Let me know your thoughts...still a bit exasperated here. I think I have improved the clarity a little, and done a bit better linking the bass guitar to the other guitars and the rest of the mix. Am I right? I've also lost the delay on the vocals...just reverb now, but doesn't sound quite right to me...any suggestions on this? I want something to give his voice and particularly the higher screams a bit of size and width...maybe gone a bit far though.

I notice the guitars and bass all seem to be fighting (as always) for the 120-150 region...i've tried to focus on that to clear them up...

Cheers
