Ripplegroove- organ trio ala MMW ( sorta)

New artist, young band- organ trio ( kiking left hand bass) guitar and drums.

All cut live - solos and all. 10 tunes done in ten hours of tracking.

Great guys, Brad B mastered , and should be out mid Jan ( independent)

Kinda jam bandy, the guitar player reminds me of Scofield/ oz noy type player.

A great track which I gave a couple of listens to and had a sneaky boogie around my office to. A bit difficult when listening on cans late at night I can assure you.

I think you said in your preamble that the track had already been mastered which prompts a bit of a question....

There is a very nice "choral" of the instrumental that kicks in from 01:25 to 01:46 and again at 03:25 to 03:46 then forms the outro from 05:47. I felt that the drums, particularly the kick were getting a bit washed in the first section but were just a tiny tad clearer, (and frankly just enough), in the second, (03:25), section. Is it my cloth ears or was the mix / mastering different in those two sections? It may be the cans but they're DT990s which have always proved okay for referencing in the past...

No, I'm sure it was my rush to mix- I had a hard time budget of 3 hrs a tune, and I blew a bit too much on those sections. I had a real problem staying focused to get these mixes to sound a little more than "live" ( some production) and get em done in a timely fashion.
I should have done some drum rides there me thinks.
No difference in Mastering to my knowledge.

the drum sound does get a little squishyer due to the snare drum key'ing a gated nuked room mic.

thanks for listening and the comments!

I don't have the session notes in front of me , but if memory serves:

d12/ beta 91 kik in, tlm 170 front ( with a tunnel built)
Sn_ 57 up, beta 98 bottom
451 hat
414 toms
royer 122 room, ksm44 room far nuked
Oheads- at 4033's /km184's and mono royer. ( varied from track to track)

millenia pre's and the trident.

I'm really wanting a pair of coles btw.

yes, and probably the first "all in the box" for me 'cuase i had to sneak in to get time ( this was way low budget) and I didn't have time to dick with outboard.

I usually use a fair amount of outboard when time/$ allows.

really frustrating to have to rush- hence the building of a home mix room for upcoming year.

thumbsup

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Very easy on the ears. A little agression in just the right spots.
