Indie pop (related to low end theory thread)

I've attached a mix which I've been discussing in the low end theory forum. Its a jangly indie pop number which I reckon sounds fine on my monitors and headphones, but seemed more boxy on my home stereo.

Actually this mix is a revised version where I think the boxiness is pretty much gone. If there is a remaining problem it is that the low end isn't tight enough.

I have a pair of Hm50s in an untreated room and headphones, so I had anticipated problems with the low end and can't really see how to fix them (apart from guesswork :-) ).

Why don't you pick up a set of 2.1 pc speakers? I think it's really useful to detect boominess and other stuff comparing your mix to other commercial stuff.

Thanks for listening :-)

I actually did (almost) exactly that. I bought a cheap boom box for the second mix and have that plugged in so I can do final tweaks on that. It immediately revealed some problems (too much room sound on the drums, annoying y frequency on the snare, etc). This mix is post-boombox.

I love XTC to bits but hadn't realised the influence on this track so its interesting to hear you point it out.
