Thread Starter | *NEW LINK UPDATED BELOW...* Hey guys, I've got another tune here that I'd love some kind of constructive criticism of the mix or production. I kind of feel like there's not a ton of separation between everything. It's one of my more dense mixes, but I want to make sure everything has it's own space. I've spent quite a bit of time reworking this, so let me know what you guys think about the updates. NEW VERSION: http://bagoftoysmusic.com/music/That...comp_eff13.mp3 OLDER VERSION: http://bagoftoysmusic.com/music/That..._comp_eff9.mp3 If anyone cares, this was essentially all recorded with a few mics (MXL V67G (vocals, drum overhead & percussion overdubs), SP B1(drum overhead), SHURE KSM32 (only on intro guitar), Shure 57 (snare), Shure Beta 52a (on bass drum). The bass was DI through Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver. Everything was running through my Presonus Firebox into my iMac running Cubase 4LE. Last edited by Robertt8; 1st September 2010 at 03:02 PM.. | Hi Robertt8! Another good track. I actually like the room ambience in the acoustic a lot. It works well for this style in my opinion. It is a bit noticeable at the beginning though, which is of course the first impression for the track. I would consider re-tracking this very small portion to avoid the out-of-time noises (or eliminate the "count-in"). When the actual riff kicks in, it's great. OCD alert: The vocalist's exhale at the very end of the song is very noticeable - do a sharp fade and kill it. The right guitar's track dropping out at :35 is a bit distracting because it leaves the lone guitar hard left. At that point in the song, if you're going to a single acoustic track, I would bring the panning more central. Lead vox are a bit loud for me, BG a bit quiet for me. Well sung! Bass is great. I like the drums a lot, perfect for the style, as is the electric part, although again the hard-pan is a little offputting for me. Overall the composition and arrangement is really good! Loved the stomp/clap and acoustic solo! |

| I seriously thought you were talking about Miles Davis' "A Tribute to Jack Johnson". |

| Lives for gear | Normally I wouldn't say this but I feel the guitars are panned too wide. ![]() |
