Metal mix

Hey

My band is recording a 2 song demo, and this is my first shot at doing all the engineering all by myselfe, and i was wondering if anyone had any comments to the work done so far?

The first of the two songs listed i have tried to "master", the other is only a mix.

I have been putting on some compressor and EQ, but i dont realy know how to apply the compressor, so i have just slapped some on where i thought it sounded ok.

I'm heading back into our "studio" today to work some more with this, so any advice would be greatly appreciated

the songs can be found at:

I think the songs sound great! Only thing I would say is maybe knock a decibel or two off the vocals in both songs? Just nitpicking at this point. I would turn the drums down slightly in the song Existance. Maybe add a little delay to the vocals?

Like I said just nitpicking but those songs sound great especially for your first time by yourself. Congrats.

Agreed that the vocals need to come down a little bit. In a way they are also just a weee bit too immediate in the mix too. I may be wrong but they sound totally dry.

I would maybe slightly (and I mean slightly) re-EQ the bass drum. I may have a little to much snap and not quite enough bottom end. Although I do understand that the density of the music in this genre of metal, too much and it gets muddy. So to the mix, it just has a tiny bit too much snap.

Otherwise, it sounds fantastic. Great riffage too!

I spent a few hours turning knobs again this weekend, and have uploaded new versions of the songs. (if only time at work went by as fast as the time i have spent doing this :p)

When do you guys call it a finished product? do you just draw the line somewhere, or are you actually pleased with what you are hearing, and know you couldnt do it better? I was thinking i might call this done, but listening to it now, i feel that i would like a bit more "open sound".
