haha, sorry to mislead you. I do know that I have the singing voice of a 12 year-old boy... maybe when I turn thirty my voice will finally change haha.

Roadie: I really dig the drum sounds, what was your process?

Used 4 channels on console. Kick. Snare and everything else. Parallel compression 4:1 with a tk bc1. No verb. No plugs on drums.

Wow! I really love this thread. @geizo64 the song is amazing and your voice is exceptional, especially considering you're a man. I mean that in an absolutely positive way. It's totally unique and I think it appeals to a whole lot of people. It does to me anyway! The lyrics and the song are really really good.

@geizo64 I actually loved the first mix and thought: don't change anything! I loved the big thump in the snare and the quirky reverb on the vocals. But @Parsonage you did a hell of a job mixing that! It really shows what a seasoned pro can do for a mix. It opened up completely and when the chorus starts: My god it actually gave me goosebumps the first time i heard it. Wow!! Can you clarify some things you done? You obviously did some fine EQ-ing the lowmids and picked some tasty reverbs. Could you share with us? (What reverbs / what did you roughly do with EQ / compression on the vocals and stuff?)

@geizo: please post here when you got a record for sale. I'll buy it immediately!

This is really a lovely tune! After listening to Geizo's two mixes, I think I prefer the second one. And, like someone mentioned, automate some of the original reverb at the end of the phrases.
I must listen to the other mixes as well!

Sure is. Love the voice, the words, the lot. A real song that connects. I'd be selling it pronto. Don't like the original mix but it works. Still, I think it could be more effectively mixed. Parsonage's mix gets my vote but not wild about the snare. I'd love to have a go at it if I could get it onto cubase - I'm not up to spped with all the file transfer stuff.

How do you guys put these little players up?

I actually agree partially about the snare (should be somewhere in between parsonage's mix and geizo's one), but both the mixes would more then do it for me. Parsonage's mix does do something extra on the vocoal / spacious / emotional front or something.

Just wanted to chime in with all my thumbs up.... really great song!

I really like Parsonage's mix – it makes it much more direct and emotional. That comes down to taste but it fits mine to a tee. Sometimes I listen to a band like Wilco and wish Tweedy would get out of his own way a little & just sing the damn songs.

You have a really expressive voice & the lyrics are excellent.

Like everyone else one this thread: WOW!

Saw this thread again the other day. Decided I'd give it a mix since I weighed in back at the beginning.

No limiting, minimal compression, so turn it up!

Thanks for letting us tinker with such a beauty of a song, geizo94.

Let us know when you make an official release!

Thanks for letting us have a go at mixing this wonderful song! Here's my humble take. Please let us know when the album will be released!

Edit: No idea how the Karaoke version of "The Boxer" wound up as the tag. Stupid Wavelab!

Thanks, Great River. Btw, I tried manually downloading your file and it still didn't play, so maybe it's the file that's not working? I'd to hear your mix, try uploading it again!

no no no!!! It was better before. This sounds so much more "conventional" I really loved the first kind of verb. maybe I'd add a tad of bottom snare mic and take back a tad of top mic, but DONT do it enough to really change the vibe.

You have a wonderful mix here and I'm wondering about how you got those drums

EDIT: this was meant as a reply to the first time you changed the vocal treatment
