Thread Starter | KATE BUSH Army Dreamers - Irish Folk Singer Cover
Hi, I produced this Kate Bush cover version of Army Dreamers, and have started mixing it today. I would love to hear your thoughts on the mix. I know it is far from finished, and hopefully plenty of user comments will help improve the finished mix. I was mixing on full range genelecs, and when I stuck the first mix on in my car stereo, it was over bassy, and the vocals sounded very brittle and thin. I made some adjustments following this, but these could still be outstanding issues. I will know better tomorrow when I do some more monitoring. Well I'm just killing time at a gig on my laptop, but on the laptop at least, this sounds very nice! Love the singer. Good job thumbsup

Thanks- how's the mix sounding so far- is the low end going crazy? And most importantly, how is the lead vox sounding?

Wow, ambitious coverwork here. This will be great once you're dialed in. Your low end is over-epic, both regard to the piano, volcanic bass drum hits, and even the upright. This has to be a monitor problem. I could use more of the primary vocal all the time, and am ambivalent about its dryness. Your instrumental tracks, harp particularly, are generally dry sounding, so I don't feel truly comfortable with the lack of spacial contrast between the lead vocal and these tracks. I'd be tempted to make the band wetter, and leave the singer as dry as you have (or the reciprocal) - as well as bringing her up (probably 3db). Congratulations on this ambitious work. John- |
