Tell me what's wrong with this song...

Hi,

I'm going to say absolutely nothing and direct you to this clip from a song I am recording/producing.

It is unmixed/unfinished...

Can you tell me anything you think is wrong with it, in terms of production & arrangement?

Please remember these two words:

'Constructive Criticism'

vocals sound too close...some reverb?
didn't think the drum sample fit the pastural texture (the constant 16th note hats detract from the natural acoustic pulse of the strings)...brushes would sound great, don't you think?

nice tune, though

I like it.

Only a detail: Over the 13 second I can hear something "strange" on voice. I don't know if it's a digital clipping or a little distortion or it's the same voice.

Can you check if it's an unwanted issue?

Nice job

Hi I'm not sure what you mean, can you describe it a bit better?

I am mainly concerned with the arrangement of the song- i.e. the tempo and flow. The bouzouki is out of tune in some places (an intonation set problem) but I hope to fix this with Melodyne. The vocals are not in keeping with the tempo at the beginning of the song, and that's why I opted for the piano chord idea, with bouzouki intertwined.

I am not keeping the drum machine pattern either.

Just realised what the noise was at 13 seconds. I think it is the singers wheezy voice.

The instruments don't really sync rythmically with the voice in the intro.

Tempo/rhythm problems mark the intro passage. Afterwards, the rhythm is more solid but the sequenced drum part would not have been my choice for the track - particularly the spitty hat sound. I'd reconsider the eq on her voice just a bit: There is a low midrange emphasis that suggests she's singing very close to the listener, which is intimate of course, but it's as though she's singing with hands cupped around her mouth. The guiatr and piano are adequately played, in my view.

Good luck and thanks for posting.
