LADY GAGA! Rock/Indie-ish cover... with video! One man band

So this was a quick mix, I wasn't even necessarily going for a great mix since I was doing the video too, 4 mics on the drums, API A2D, guitar rig for the guitar(!), DI bass... I still think it turned out pretty good! I am a masochist and tried to get pretty much everything in one solid long take, which I accomplished for the most part.

Check it out.

+1 for JapanIsDoomed

A little to much delay for me, sounds washed out.

Yeah I keep getting comments about the echo... it didn't bother me but maybe I got used to it. I'm a sucker for delay, beyond most people's taste apparently. But thank you!

That's interesting, but I like girls. Probably not your sister though.

edit: the second half of that ^^ was a kinda sarcastic-joke, realized that might not come through well on THE INTARWEBS LOL

LOL well anyways, you got a pretty decent looking studio btw

one question though, how come on the video you're singing into the condenser without a pop filter and there's no mics on the drums?

haha, i was thinking the same thing when i saw the drums!

interesting video btw. a little too much echo on the vocals for me. but good job on the production.

Thanks!

You are the first one to acknowledge those things about the mics, I was waiting for someone to! 1. I didn't want the pop filter to cast a shadow on my face, it looked weird, so I just didn't use one and angled myself kind of diagonal from the mic/stayed a decent distance away, which ta-da... no weird popping or anything like that. And the drums actually have mics on them, but only 4-- two overheads, kick and snare. You can see the snare mic but it's kind of hidden, check it out, and the mic stand for what is the left overhead, near my crash cymbal.

edit: ooh now there's two of ya. Look closer!

hm yeah i guess you can kinda see the stands all the way to the right

i was a bit confused at first because you're playing along pretty much spot on but i couldn't see any mics

are the toms you hear just from the overheads or did you add in some samples? SSD perhaps?

If there are any toms you're hearing it's from the overheads, but unfortunately I couldn't even really hear them. I did mix in a SSD sample on the snare, though, which I think might actually get triggered when I hit the hi-tom a couple times, but I didn't really care haha

Holy hell. This is one of the best things I've seen on here in a long time. I'll just give the same constructive criticism as everyone else -- ease up on the echo, otherwise perfect.

Are you a fan of Jack Conte and Pomplamoose?

Well done, sir!!! The switch to half-time drums on the chorus is a nice arrangement choice.

Just out of curiosity, how many takes did you record of each part?
